Concrete is the most popular building material in the world. There is a lot of information to find, there are thousands of publications, journals and conferences.

98% of Cement produced is going into Concrete and therefore Cement consumption is a good indicator for Concrete need. In average about 300 kg of Cement are going into 1 m³ of concrete.

On the graph above you can see, how cement consumption evolved over the last 80 years and you can make different projections for the next years – even if there will be a tremendous slow down, consumption and growth will still be enormous.

Cement is one of the most relevant producers of human made CO₂. This climate threat everybody is concerned and obviously there is no simple answer. Quite an impressive reduction of CO₂ was achieved over the last 40 years but it is still very high.

Concrete is and will be still for a considerable time the most important building material we have. Therefore it is even more important than ever to make the best possible out of this material.
