Motivation - With Concrete we build our Future

Concrete is the most popular building material in the world. There is a lot of information to find, there are thousands of publications, journals and conferences.

Worldwide Estimated Cement Consumption 1926 - 2007

98% of Cement produced is going into Concrete and therefore Cement consumption is a good indicator for Concrete need. In average about 300 kg of Cement are going into 1 m3 of concrete.

On the graph above you can see, how cement consumption evolved over the last 80 years and you can make different projections for the next years – even if there will be a tremendous slow down, consumption and growth will still be enormous.

Cement is one of the most relevant producers of human made CO2. This climate threat everybody is concerned and obviously there is no simple answer. Quite an impressive reduction of CO2 was achieved over the last 40 years but it is still very high.

Concrete is and will be still for a considerable time the most important building material we have. Therefore it is even more important than ever to make the best possible out of this material.

Everybody who works with concrete should know what concrete can and what it can not. In order to take the full advantage from the material we have to enhance our knowledge about concrete:

  • What are the material properties
  • How can the material properties be influenced
  • How to use the material properties in the best way – optimum design
  • Concrete is much more than flat, grey and boring – find out how attractive concrete can be
  • Placement must be done professionally – mistakes can reduce the service period of concrete dramatically
  • Rehabilitation and repair of existing concrete structure gets more and more important

You really had once a problem – you really wanted to know something specific?

Did you ever try to find the right answer for your problem?

On this Web Page you find what you need, there is a clear and transparent structure of information for your specific needs. For a detailed over-view of the web page please refer to the section Structure.
